Elliott Sadler and primary sponsor OneMain Financial in the Xfinity Series will move to JR Motorsports next season, according to a report by Motorsport.com.
The web site said “multiple sources” (unnamed) confirmed the report. Sadler has not yet signed with JRM, but is expected to, the report also stated.
If the report is accurate, it would be a homecoming of sorts for Sadler, 40, who competed in five Xfinity races for JRM, which is co-owned by NASCAR Sprint Cup star Dale Earnhardt Jr., in 2010.
Plus, JRM will be losing driver and defending Xfinity champion Chase Elliott at the end of this season. Elliott will replace the retiring Jeff Gordon in the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in the Sprint Cup Series next season, thus opening a potential slot for Sadler with JRM.
OneMain has sponsored Sadler since 2011, during which he’s raced for Kevin Harvick’s Xfinity team (2011), Richard Childress Racing (2012) and Joe Gibbs Racing (2013 and 2014) before joining Roush-Fenway Racing this season.
A RFR spokesman told Motorsport.com that it would have no comment on the Sadler-to-JRM report. A JRM spokesman said the company is still formulating its plans for 2016.
Sadler is currently fifth in the NXS standings. He has not won a race yet in 2015, but has four top-five and 10 top-10 finishes in 19 starts. Sadler has 10 wins and 16 poles in 282 career Xfinity starts.
