Kentucky Speedway announced back in January it would repave the 1.5-mile track’s surface in time for the Sprint Cup Series’ race weekend in July.

The repave project includes the addition of 3,200 feet of SAFER barrier and an increase of the banking in Turns 1 and 2 from 14 to 17 degrees.

Another improvement was the removal of a very rough patch of the track on the frontstretch.

Track general manager Mark Simendinger gave an update on that portion of the repave Tuesday on Twitter. He tagged Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the message.

Drivers will get to experience the new surface at Kentucky during the Quaker State 400 on July 9.
