Weeks after announcing that he would be attempting to run the 2025 Daytona 500, Mike Wallace announced today that NASCAR has not only not approved him to run the 500, but Wallace will not be allowed to run any NASCAR Cup, Xfinity or Truck races at all for 2025.

According to NASCAR and Wallace, the reason the former Daytona winner will not be allowed to race as a driver is due to the fact Wallace has not driven in NASCAR’s top 3 series for over 10 years.

The team that Wallace was due to race with, MBM Motorsports confirmed Wallace is out of the car and is currently looking for a driver and funding to run the 500:

MBM Motorsports can confirm that NASCAR has deemed Mike Wallace is not eligible to compete in the 2025 Daytona 500, despite eleven previous 500 starts and several superspeedway wins, due to lack of recent races in major professional motorsports. We are devastated for Mike and the Wallace family that this opportunity will not come to fruition. For MBM, we must regroup at this late stage with the loss of our driver and sponsor for The Great American Race. Our team is working swiftly to sign another funded driver for Speedweeks in order to still attempt the 67th Daytona 500. Sponsorship opportunities remain with our No. 66 team: contact us at info@mbmmotorsports.com for more.
