Singer Sheryl Crow is a total gearhead.

Well, at least nowadays.

The nine-time Grammy winner was at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday to perform the pre-race concert leading into Saturday night’s 400-mile race. Beforehand, she talked about her love of speed and cars. And it was clear she knew what she was talking about.

“I have a 1964 Corvette and I love it,” said Crow, who was born and raised in Kennett, Mo. “I grew up on motocross bikes. My first car was a Z28 with glasspacks and headers and cherry bombs, the whole thing.”

There was one problem for Crow, though.

“Nobody told me I was supposed to change the oil in it, so then I had to buy a new short block for it a year after I drove it to college,” she said.

Crow takes much better care of her cars these days.

And she’ll surely pass that information along to her two young sons she adopted in recent years. They got their first look at Daytona on Saturday, joining Crow as she returned to the famed track for the first time since performing at the Dale Earnhardt tribute concert in 2003.

“I took my kids out on the track earlier today and said this is where (Disney character) Lightning McQueen would be racing if he was real,” she said.
