If we learned anything at the 2014 Monster Energy Supercross season opener, it is to never write off Jason Anderson.

The Rockstar Energy-backed rider looked to be down and out after losing the lead to Cole Seely early in the race, but a miraculous last lap comeback propelled Anderson to his second career 250SX Main Event win.

Anderson rocketed out of the gates and claimed the holeshot, only to lose the lead to Seely three laps later. Seely quickly gapped the 20-year-old, pushing his lead to more than two seconds at one point. However, Anderson was not to be denied. As Seely struggled with lap riders, Anderson pushed hard and caught the Honda rider with two turns remaining.

Knowing a race win was on the line, Anderson forced a pass for the lead, collided with Seely and made it stick. Seely was unable to fight back and had to settle for second as Anderson celebrated in front of a sold out Anaheim crowd.

Zach Osborne, riding for the GEICO Honda squad, managed to outduel Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson for third. Rookie Cooper Webb finished fifth followed by Justin Hill, Darryn Durham, Malcolm Stewart, Jessy Nelson and Austin Politelli.

The 250SX West riders head to Chase Field in Phoenix, Ariz. next weekend for Round 2 of their championship. You can watch the action live on FOX Sports 1 beginning Jan. 11 at 9:30 p.m. ET.
