Honda Muscle Milk rider Justin Barcia topped the overall time sheets during Saturday’s qualifying practice at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.
Barcia’s lap time of 57.656 – set in the second and final timed session – placed him atop the leaderboards ahead of Saturday night’s season opener. Rookie Ken Roczen pushed hard to try and bump Barcia from the top spot, but would ultimately finish in second, seven-tenths off Barcia’s torrid pace.
2013 Monster Energy Cup winner James Stewart, who was quickest in the first timed session, finished third overall behind the two young guns. A pair of Champions – Ryan Villopoto and Ryan Dungey – finished in fourth and fifth, respectively. Justin Brayton, Chad Reed, Josh Grant, Eli Tomac and Broc Tickle rounded out the top 10.
In the 250 Class, Dean Wilson and Zach Osborne posted the same lap of 58.187, but Wilson was awarded the top spot based achieving the time first. Jason Anderson finished the pair of sessions in third followed by TLD Honda teammates Malcolm Stewart and Cole Seely.
