Dover International Speedway has a new look this weekend with changes to its fencing and the stands.

This weekend marks the debut of the track’s new $2.9 million safety catch fence. The fence stands 21 feet. The old fence stood 15 feet.

Also, the track has eliminated 17,500 seats. The track has removed seats in the upper and lower section in Turn 2 and lower section in Turn 3. That brings the track’s capacity to 95,500.

Current plans call for the removal of seats in the upper section in Turn 3 after the fall weekend race. That will bring the track’s capacity to about 85,000.

“We continue to explore different short-term and long-term capital improvement projects to add more fan amenities and attractions that appeal to fans of all shapes, sizes, ages and preferences,” said Michael Tatoian, president and CEO of Dover International Speedway, in a statement. “From youngsters and millennials, to casual and hardcore, longtime fans, we want to provide each of them with the experience they are looking for when they set foot on the property. It’s not a process that happens overnight, but we are committed to getting there.”
