GEICO Honda’s Justin Bogle led from start to finish Saturday night in Toronto to earn his first career Monster Energy Supercross 250SX Class victory.
Bogle, who scored a career-best second-place finish last weekend in Detroit, Mich., one-upped himself this time around with a dominant performance in front of 48,892 fans inside the Rogers Centre. Bogle’s triumph snaps a seven-race win streak put forth by the Pro Circuit Kawasaki squad – dating back to Dean Wilson’s 250SX Class Western Regional victory at Anaheim 3.
“I’m definitely happy,” Bogle said. “Both of my parents are here, my birthday is tomorrow, I got my first win, pulled a holeshot — finally, first time in my professional career in Supercross. It feels good, definitely.”
Martin Davalos entered Toronto trailing teammate Adam Cianciarulo by 17 points in the championship battle, but with the help of a second-place effort and Cianciarulo’s misfortune, Davalos captured the red plate and 4-point advantage over Cianciarulo. Bogle is also a threat for the title in third, five points back.
Earlier in the day during practice, Cianciarulo’s shoulder popped out of place while he was going through a set of whoops. He received medical attention and was cleared to race in the night show. After finishing third in his heat race, Cianciarulo would give it a go in the 15-lap main event – although he was clearly in pain.
Cianciarulo started second and aimed to keep Bogle in his sights, but while going through the whoops on Lap 3, his shoulder popped out again. The trackside Asterisk medical crew popped it back into place and Cianciarulo attempted to re-enter the race, however, the rookie would pull off the track moments later, resulting in a DNF.
Cianciarulo’s teammate Blake Baggett also suffered a devastating result after crashing out of the race on Lap 9. Baggett was credited with 20th and now trails teammate Davalos by 24 points.
Bad breaks for two of the three Pro Circuit riders opened the door for other riders to make a statement. Matt Lemoine did just that by backing up his first career heat win with a career-best result of third in the main event. Jeremy Martin was fourth ahead of Cole Thompson and Vince Friese
