Sebastien Bourdais will return to Dragon Racing in 2013 after the team announced it has renewed the contract of the four-time Champ Car World Series champion on Nov. 9.
The Frenchman will return to the team owned by Jay Penske after showing the pairing showed potential for success after the team changed to Chevrolet engines days before the Indianapolis 500.
“It’s a privilege to have Seb once again piloting the Number 7 Dragon Racing entry,” Penske said. “2012 was a challenge for us on so many levels, but despite that, towards the end of last season we demonstrated that with the right equipment and strategy, Dragon Racing is a force to be reckoned with. I am truly excited about what can be achieved this coming season and with Seb at the wheel – the best is yet to come.”
Bourdais, who scored the only top-10 finish for a Lotus-powered car in 2012, qualifed in the top-10 five times in six road races following Indianapolis. He scored a season-best finish of fourth at Mid-Ohio.
“It is with great pleasure and excitement that I will return for a second season at the wheel of the Dragon Racing/McAfee/Chevy entry,” he said. “To kick things off that early is a great boost for 2013 after all the obstacles we had to go through in 2012. With the stability of the staff, the sponsors and the experience we amassed this year, I am very confident we can achieve great results next season.”
Dragon Racing expects to make several personnel and sponsorship announcements in the next few months as it prepares for the first race of the 2013 season. (IndyCar)
