Ross Chastain earned the second pole of his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series career this afternoon at Phoenix International Raceway, and will start tonight’s “Lucas Oil 150” from the top spot.
Chastain’s fast lap in 26.987 seconds (133.398 mph) gave him the pole over outside pole starter Erik Jones, with Brendan Gaughan, defending series champion James Beuscher and Max Gresham completing the top six.
Despite his second pole of 2013, Chastain ranks only 19th in championship points, and said he had no set ride for next season.
“Things aren’t looking too good right now,” admitted Chastain. “There is nothing in place right now for me at BKR, or anywhere else, for that matter. Hopefully, winning this pole and maybe a race or two before the end of the season will help, but as of now, there’s nothing.
“My goal for the 2014 season is to be at the race track every week and not back on the farm. But right now, it’s not looking very good.”
