17-year-old Adam Cianciarulo raced to his second career Eastern Regional 250SX Class victory Saturday night in front of 59,919 fans at Lucas Oil Stadium.
It was an impressive performance from start to finish for Cianciarulo, with the rookie grabbing fastest-qualifier honors, winning his heat race and eventually taking the main event victory.
“I’m definitely happy with my ride, it was more of a smart race for me,” said Cianciarulo. “I knew the whoops would be key because they really deteriorated. I had a couple close calls early on, but was able to keep it close to Martin [Davalos]. He made a mistake and I was able to capitalize on it. I almost gave it back a little bit later, but I got back on the bike quick and kept the lead.”
Martin Davalos, who picked up his first career victory last weekend, led the opening six laps before crashing in the rhythm section, allowing Cianciarulo to move into first and Matt Bisceglia into second.
Cianciarulo quickly stretched a gap over Bisceglia, and despite a brief fall on Lap 8, went on to win by over five seconds. Davalos recovered to finish second, while GEICO Honda’s Justin Bogle passed his teammate -Bisceglia – late to secure his second straight podium result.
As the series heads to Daytona, Fla., Cianciarulo holds a five-point lead over his Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammate Martin Davalos. Bogle sits in third, 16 points out of the lead.
