NASCAR fined Danica Patrick $50,00 and docked her 25 points Tuesday for retaliating against David Gilliland in Sunday’s race at Martinsville Speedway.

NASCAR cited Patrick with a Behavior Penalty.

Patrick told NASCAR Talk that she meant to exact revenge against Gilliland after contact with him earlier in the race sent her car in the wall.

“He unnecessarily, I thought, took me out at the beginning of the race,’’ Patrick told NASCAR Talk. “So I was just repaying the favor.’’

She had meant to do so sooner but didn’t recognize his car, which featured a special paint scheme. After she was told she had passed him, she said on the radio to her team: “Damn it, I was meaning to take him out. I’ll have to next time.’’
