Martin Davalos broke through to capture his first career Monster Energy Supercross 250SX Class victory in front of 69,785 fans at the Georgia Dome.
The Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider led all 15 laps Saturday night, grabbing the victory in his 64th career start ahead of teammate Adam Cianciarulo and GEICO Honda’s Justin Bogle.
“I am just so happy to be able to give this win to my team,” said Davalos. “There have been so many people that have supported me, and this feels great.”
Cianciarulo, who earned a victory last weekend in his supercross debut, got the holeshot in the 250SX main event but a slight bobble through the first rhythm section allowed Davalos to make the pass for the lead. He would be unchallenged for the remainder of the race.
”At the beginning of the race, Martin [Davalos] started to pull away, but toward the second half of the race, I was able to catch up,” said Cianciarulo. “Then, I made a stupid mistake. I guess you live and learn.”
After two rounds, Cianciarulo holds a two-point lead over Davalos in the Eastern Regional 250SX Class Championship. Blake Baggett’s fifth-place result drops him to third in the standings, nine points behind Cianciarulo.
