Monster Energy Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team’s Dylan Ferrandis announced today he will miss the remainder of the 2015 FIM World Motocross Championship to undergo knee surgery to repair damaged ligaments and meniscus sustained at the MXGP of Spain this past weekend.

“I was very happy to get the holeshot in the second race, but on the third lap I again hit the ground with my painful knee and couldn’t maintain the same rhythm,” he said in a statement.” Back at home yesterday I had further examinations on Tuesday morning; the ligaments of my left knee are broken and the meniscus is damaged, so I will have surgery on Thursday. The season is over for me, unfortunately.”

Ferrandis, currently second in MX2 point standings, has five moto podiums, which included a moto win in Argentina, through six rounds. With Ferrandis out for the season, Jeffrey Herlings will carry an eighty-four-point lead in MX2 to the MXGP of Great Britain.
