Tickets for Saturday’s Indianapolis 500 qualifying session at Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be honored Sunday.

That reversal came after an initial decision that Saturday’s tickets would not be honored Sunday.

An IMS spokesman said the initial decision was made because the cars practiced and ran. The session was called off because of rain early in the afternoon.

From an IMS news release:

Since qualifying will start fresh tomorrow we will honor Saturday, May 16th’s General Admission tickets on Sunday May 17th for qualifying for the 99th Running of the Indianapolis 500. Please bring today’s ticket stub with you tomorrow as they will be honored at the gates. Thank you for your continued passion for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500.

Those who bought tickets to the first day of qualifying at Indianapolis Motor Speedway will have to buy another ticket to come back on Sunday.

The Speedway will not be honoring Saturday tickets to Sunday’s qualifying despite canceling the qualifying after just 10 minutes due to rain Saturday.

Tickets for Sunday’s qualifying are $20.

Reaction to the announcement on Twitter drew ire from fans hoping to come back on Sunday.
