Justin Barcia is out for the remainder of the 2014 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, as he plans to go under the knife to fix a chronic ankle issue.
Barcia contested the first two rounds of the season before foot and ankle injuries kept him out of this past weekend’s round at Thunder Valley. Up to that point, he had recorded three top-five finishes to start the year, along with one DNF due to a broken chain on his bike. This injury will bring an end to his season – likely his final one riding for the Honda Muscle Milk team. He’s slated to undergo surgery sometime this week after doctors advised him that it was the only solution for getting rid of the nagging injury.
In the team’s statement, Barcia said in part, “I cannot wait to ride without pain and I will do everything I can to come back with a vengeance. I would like to thank all my sponsors who have been great during this difficult time, and I want to assure my fans that I’ll be back better than ever.”
Last year marked Barcia’s first full season racing in the 450 Class. Securing podium finishes in nine of 24 motos in 2013, he placed third overall in points.
