Regan Smith will drive in place of Kasey Kahne the next three races, Leavine Family Racing announced Tuesday night.
Smith, who filled in for Kahne at Indianapolis, will drive the No. 95 this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Richmond and the Charlotte Roval. Smith finished 20th in Monday’s race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Kahne continues to work with his physicians on his health. Kahne had dehydration issues during the Southern 500 and went to the infield care center after the race. He has had issues with dehydration for more than a year and has undergone tests.
“I just can’t control the temperature in my body and my heart rate,” Kahne said Friday. “Once it gets to that point, there’s nothing I can do until I get out of the car. We’re still trying to figure that out. That’s why I’m not racing (at Indianapolis), I don’t want to create any more damage to myself or my body.”
Temperatures are expected to be about 100 degrees this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Kahne said Friday that was something that worried him.
Kahne admits this issue was “definitely” part of his decision to not to run full-time in NASCAR beyond this season.
Kahne posted a statement on Twitter Wednesday addressing the situation.
