In 2020, Kaulig Racing’s two full-time drivers – Ross Chastain and Justin Haley – are title contenders on a stock-car circuit that is one step down from NASCAR’s Cup Series.
NASCAR’s Cup Series has a charter system that guarantees 36 teams entry and a share of the purse for each points race. Teams can sell their charters – a rule that recently resulted in Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin starting a team that will feature driver Bubba Wallace.
Kaulig thinks his racing team could have a full-time entry in the Cup Series as soon as 2022.
“I wouldn’t put that down as a hard goal, but it’s looking like we’re moving in that direction,” he said.
That timeline would coincide with the introduction of the Next Gen car model that NASCAR has planned for 2022. It could also be a good time for Haley, should he re-sign and want to get a third Xfinity season under his belt, to make the leap during a year in which he’ll turn 23.
