NASCAR announced it found violations with three Sprint Cup teams during and after Sunday’s Daytona 500 qualifying.
NASCAR discovered that the track bars on the Stewart-Haas Racing cars of Kevin Harvick and Brian Vickers weren’t in compliance during post-qualifying inspection. Their qualifying times were disallowed.
NASCAR stated that a roof flap on Martin Truex Jr.‘s car was not in compliance. The issue was discovered before his qualifying attempt. The team was unable to correct the violation in the 5 minutes allowed and forfeited their qualifying attempt. The car returned to the inspection area in the garage, and NASCAR photographed the roof flap.
All three teams – which are guaranteed a starting spot because they have charters – will start at the rear of their qualifying races Thursday at Daytona International Speedway.
Each team is subject to further penalty. Any such penalties likely will be announced later this week.
