Fox Sports’ Bob Pockrass reports that NASCAR will not repossess the charter for Rick Ware Racing’s No. 51 team at the end of the year.
The charter for the No. 51 team was originally owned by No. 15 HScott Motorsports before being sold to No. 15 Premium Motorsports. Rick Ware partnered with Premium in 2020 and under the charter for his No. 15 team in 2021 and 2022 before being renumbered to the No. 51 this season.
If a chartered team finishes in the bottom three among the 36 chartered teams in the owner standings three consecutive years, NASCAR has the ability take the charter if they choose. It is not required that they take it.
The No. 15 team finished 35th in owner standings in 2021 and 34th in 2022. This year the No. 51 team is currently 34th again.
