After suffering devastating losses two weeks in a row, Cole Seely has finally claimed his first win of the 2014 Monster Energy Supercross season.
Seely grabbed the holeshot over rookie Cooper Webb and went on to lead all 15 laps en route to his fourth career 250SX victory.
“We knew exactly what we needed in the main to throw down some laps,” said Seely. “It felt good to finally have a little bit of breathing room on that last lap.
“It just feels so good to finally be on the top of the box. I’ve been so sick the past two weeks and it just helps so much with my confidence.”
Jason Anderson, who pulled off back-to-back upset victories over Seely, started the race in fifth and looked to be out of contention for the win. However, he made quick work of Malcolm Stewart for fourth and was awarded third when Dean Wilson crashed into a tuff block. A few laps later, Anderson moved past Webb for second and trailed Seely by less than three seconds with seven laps to go.
Seely – realizing the threat of Anderson – upped his pace and pulled away from his title rival. Anderson was unable to catch Seely and was forced to settle for second. Webb held on to score a career-best third.
Malcolm Stewart finished fourth followed by Justin Hill and Shane Mcelrath in fifth and sixth, respectively. Wilson recovered to finish seventh. Zach Osborne, coming off back-to-back podiums, finished eighth after being involved in Wilson’s crash.
Anderson holds a three-point lead over Seely as the 250SX West Championship heads to Oakland (Jan. 25 – 10:30 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1).
