Tony Stewart is expected to announce his retirement after the 2016 NASCAR Sprint cup season tomorrow at the Stewart-HAAS Racing shop.

As the NASCAR world prepares to say good bye to Stewart, details about finding a replacement for the future Hall of Fame Driver/Car owner have become clearer.

Clint Bowyer will be announced as Stewarts replacement within the week, however, Bowyer was Stewart’s second choice for the ride.

Stewart desperately wanted Kyle Larson for the jobĀ andĀ Larson is available in 2017, but the particulars of his current contract didn’t fall into place with the timetable Stewart needed to execute his plan.

Then Clint Bowyer became available and Stewart had his man.

Bowyer will spend 2016 making laps with another team as he waits for Stewart to complete his retirement tour.

Reports have Bowyer in the #51 HScott Motorsports Chevy in 2016 with 5-Hour Energy on the car before moving to the #14 Stewart-HAAS Chevy in 2017. Bowyer has raced for Michael Waltrip Racing since 2012; earlier this Summer, Waltrip announced he will close his team at season’s end.

Stewart-HAAS has a press conference scheduled for 1pm tomorrow.
