Ryan Villopoto led wire-to-wire in Saturday night’s 450SX Main Event to grab his second victory of the 2014 Monster Energy Supercross season.

After assuming the lead on the first lap, the Kawasaki ace managed a comfortable lead throughout the 20-lap feature and cruised to an easy win over James Stewart by a margin of 4.235 seconds.

“It feels good to be up here tonight,” Villopoto said. “We have put in a lot of work at the test track, and I have a great team behind me and a great bike under me. I hope I can carry this momentum into Anaheim next weekend.”

Last week’s winner Chad Reed finished third followed by Ryan Dungey and Justin Brayton.

Reed’s third podium finish of the season puts him second in points, seven behind new leader Villopoto. Ken Roczen, who held the red plate in Oakland, finished sixth and will drop to third in points (-9).

Stewart started an impressive charge through the field on Lap 4, passing Dungey for fourth and Brayton for third a few laps later. The Yoshimura Suzuki rider eventually caught and passed Reed for second, but was unable to close in on Villopoto.

“The track was really one-lined tonight,” said Stewart. “I had to take some chances out there to move through the field.”

Riders head back to Anaheim, Calif. for the third and final race inside Angel Stadium. Coverage begins Saturday (Feb. 1) at 10 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1.
