Kyle Busch has re-entered a race car in his recovery from the injuries that have sidelined him from the Sprint Cup Series this season.
Team owner Joe Gibbs told Motorsport.com before Sunday’s Geico 500 at Talladega Superspeedway that Busch had tested a Late Model last week.
“We have a program for him and we’re moving forward with everything — and that was part of it,” said the owner of Joe Gibbs Racing, who didn’t know where Busch had tested the car.
Busch has been sidelined since breaking his right leg and fracturing his left foot in the Feb. 21 Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway. During a news conference last month, he said he likely would gauge his healing by driving a Late Model. NASCAR restricts him from testing in the Sprint Cup, Xfinity or Camping World Truck Series.
Motorsport.com reported Busch will race this weekend in a Kyle Busch Motorsports Late Model at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway.
The Sprint Cup Series will race Saturday night at Kansas Speedway with Erik Jones driving the No. 18 Toyota in place of Busch. Jones said Friday at Talladega that JGR confirmed him as Busch’s substitute only for the race at Kansas.
